Somerville Manning Gallery in Greenville, DE just hung new paintings by Philip Koch in their gallery. Here is Koch's oil Scarlet Forest II on the left, with a drawing by Jamie Wyeth of a pig on the far wall.
Last week Koch gave the annual endowed Outten Visiting Artist lecture on his painting career at the Maier Museum of Art in Lynchburg, VA. The museum recently acquired a drawing by Koch that had been partly inspired by a painting in the museum's permanent collection, Edward Hopper's oil Mrs. Scott's House from 1942. Here is the Maier's Curator of Education Laura McManus with Koch and the Hopper.

Maier Museum of Art in Lynchburg, VA has invited Philip Koch to give the museum's annual endowed Outten Lecture on Sept. 13. 2023. Koch will trace some of the key influences that have shaped his painting career, including artists in the Maier's collection. Free and open to the public. 6pm Reception, 7pm lecture. Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College in Lynchburg, VA hung Philip Koch's drawing Edward Hopper's Studio, Truro in their new exhibition Recent Acquisitions from the Permanent Collection. The drawing was partly inspired by Maier's Edward Hopper oil Mrs. Scott's House from 1931. The museum installed the pieces in adjacent galleries so they can be seen simultaneously.

Koch will be attending the opening reception for the show Wednesday June 21, 5 - 7p.m. One of Koch's paintings included in the exhibition will be Canopy, oil on canvas, 40 x 30 inches, 2023.

Koch's painting Truro Afternoon, oil on panel, 14 x 21, 2021 is displayed in the Members Exhibition at Edward Hopper House Museum and Study Center in Nyack, NY (April 1-9, 2023). The painting was begun on location in Hopper's Cape Cod studio during one of Koch's residencies there. Last weekend- Philip and his wife Alice (on left) with Anna Marley, head Curator at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Anna gave a personal tour of her major exhibition Making American Artists. Edward Hopper's oil from the exhibition in the background.

At Sommerville Manning Gallery last weekend, Philip Koch with his large painting The Reach IV hanging on the gallery walls with three Andrew Wyeth paintings. Says Koch "This is one of my all time favorite paintings. It's an honor for me to hang alongside Wyeth, an artist I have been admiring and studying ever since I started out as an art studen."

The drawing was inspired both by Koch's many residencies in the historic Hopper studio and by the 1932 oil Hopper painted Mrs. Scott's House that depicts a house a few hundred yards from Hopper's studio in Truro on Cape Cod.
